Top 10 Essential Oils and a few ways to use them.

Essential oils…plant juice magic! 😂

If you have never used essential oils before you are probably wondering what they are. Here’s a quick rundown:

When you are first getting started using oils it can feel overwhelming because there are so many different oils available that can be used for so many different things. I have compiled a list of my top 10 essential oils and how to use them. This is a great starting point because these oils are so versatile and most of them have multiple uses.


Lavender

  • diffuse 3 drops to promote a calm and restful environment (perfect for sleep)
  • rub a drop on a burn or cut to clean and help support quick healing (dilute with a carrier oil if you have sensitive skin or for use on kids)
  • rub a drop on a scar to help reduce its appearance
  • create a roller bottle and apply over heart and on the back of your head to support stress and anxiety
  • massage 1 drop diluted with carrier oil on the spine, feet and abdomen to help calm an upset or colic baby
  • inhale 1 drop and massage into temples and back of neck to support head tension

Lemon

  • add 1-2 drops to a glass of water to promote gentle cleansing
  • use 3-5 drops in a sink of cold water as a veggie soak (optional, add a squirt of onGuard hand soap or ½ cup of apple cider vinegar for extra cleaning power)
  • use 10-15 drops mixed with water in a glass spray bottle for a natural degreaser and furniture polish
  • diffuse 3 drops to uplift your mood

Frankincense

  • diffuse 3-5 drops to support emotional balance
  • apply to skin to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks
  • put a drop under your tongue to support seizures
  • put a drop on your finger and press onto the roof of your mouth to support head tension
  • press a drop onto the roof of your mouth to support cell health and healthy inflammation in your body
  • diffuse to help promote focus or meditation

Peppermint

  • apply a drop to the back of your neck and temples to promote alertness
  • apply to the back of your neck, down spine, and on the bottoms of your feet to help reduce a fever
  • apply to temples, above ears and to back of neck to help support head tension
  • diffuse to promote alertness and motivation
  • inhale a drop in the palm of your hands to help curb cravings
  • apply to your breasts or drink in water to help decrease milk supply
  • gargle a drop in water to help with bad breathe
  • apply a drop diluted with a carrier oil on your stomach or drink a drop in water to help relieve stomach pain

OnGuard

  • diffuse to purify your air and for a bonus hit of immune support
  • apply to the bottoms of your feet to promote good immune function
  • put 2 drops in a veggie capsule with olive oil to promote good immune function (take internally)
  • use 10-15 drops mixed in a spray bottle with 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water for an all natural, multi-purpose cleaner
  • apply a drop directly onto cold sores, warts or infected wounds to promote healing
  • gargle 1-2 drops in water to promote good oral health
  • use to create an all natural laundry detergent.

Oregano

  • put 2 drops in a veggie capsule with olive oil to help boost immune system when you are feeling run down
  • dilute a drop with a carrier oil and apply to skin affected with ring worm or athlete’s foot to promote healing
  • gargle a drop in warm water as needed to help support strep throat or tonsillitis
  • put 2 drops in a veggie capsule with olive oil to help support the body in fighting viruses or bacterial infections

Tea Tree

  • apply directly to blemishes on your skin to promote healing
  • add a few drops to your all purpose cleaner to add additional antibacterial properties
  • take a drop in a capsule or gargle with warm water to support a sore throat
  • apply 3 drops diluted with a carrier oil behind and around the ear to help support ear infections (NEVER put oils directly into your ear)
  • apply 2 drops diluted with a carrier oil to cuts to help clean and disinfect them
  • use to create an all natural head lice deterrent spray(Tea Tree is also called Melaleuca in some markets)

Deep Blue

dilute in a carrier oil or some unscented lotion and rub on sore muscles

add 2-4 drops to some epsom salts and then into a hot bath for a relaxing, whole body soothing experience

Deep Blue is also available in a rub format which is an easy solution to help sore muscles

Easy Air

  • diffuse to promote open airways and easy breathing
  • dilute with a carrier oil and rub directly onto your chest when experiencing respiratory issues or before working out to promote open airways
  • dilute with a carrier oil in a roller bottle to have on hand for those middle of the night respiratory issues with your kids

Easy Air is also called Breathe in some markets.

ZenGest

  • dilute with a carrier oil and rub directly over abdomen to help relieve bloating, gas, heartburn, nausea or indigestion
  • add a drop in water or a veggie capsule to help relieve diarrhea, constipation or the effects of food poisoning (continue frequently until symptoms subside)
  • inhale a drop from the palm of your hands to help relieve motion sickness

ZenGest is also called DigestZen in some markets.
